Survey of 500 likely voters in Florida, Ohio, North Carolina and Virginia was conducted on March 10-15, 2012. The margin of error is +/- 4.5 percentage points. Results from the poll conducted March 3-8, 2012 are in parentheses. Results from the poll conducted February 17-22, 2012 are in square brackets.

Inside the numbers:
Both GOP candidates lead the president by roughly 20 points among men in the four states. The president holds similar leads over his opponents among women.

In last week's survey (March 3-8), both GOP candidates led Obama by five points among men in the four states. The president held 13-point leads among women in the two matchups.

In the initial Core Four States poll (February 17-22), Santorum led by 14 points among men but trailed by 11 among women. Romney led by nine among men but was down by eight among women.
