Survey of 500 likely voters was conducted June 3, 2012. The margin of error is +/- 4.5 percentage points.  Results from the poll conducted April 23, 2012 are in parentheses.  Results from the poll conducted March 20, 2012 are in curly brackets.  Results from the poll conducted February 21, 2012 are in square brackets.  Results from the poll conducted September 28, 2011 are in parentheses. 

Inside the numbers:
Allen earns just 82% support among Republicans in Virginia, while Kaine has the backing of 91% of the state’s Democrats. Voters not affiliated with either major party favor the Republican 44% to 39%.

Allen holds a double-digit lead among male voters, while Kaine posts a similar lead among female voters. Those under 40 prefer the Democrat; most voters 40 and over favor the Republican. Most married voters like Allen; most unmarried voters choose Kaine instead.

Allen is the choice of 71% of conservative voters in the Old Dominion. Fifty-two percent (52%) of moderates and 87% of liberals support Kaine.

Kaine is viewed very favorably by 19% of all voters in the state, down slightly from April, and very unfavorably by 23%. For Allen, very favorables are 20% and very unfavorables 18%.
