Survey of 500 likely voters was conducted August 21, 2012. The margin of error is +/- 4.5 percentage points.  Results from the poll conducted April 3, 2012 are in square brackets.  Results from the poll conducted February 14, 2012 are in parentheses.

Inside the numbers:

Heinrich leads Wilson 48% to 39% among female voters in New Mexico but holds a narrower 47% to 43% lead among male voters. Both nominees receive virtually the same level of support from their respective political parties. Among unaffiliated voters, 36% support Heinrich; 34% back Wilson, and 31% prefer some other candidate or are undecided.

The Democrat is viewed very favorably by 24% and very unfavorably by 18%. Wilson’s reviews are 17% very favorable, 34% very unfavorable. Opinions of Heinrich have grown noticeably more positive since April, while Wilson’s ratings are more negative.
