Inside the numbers:

Fifty percent (50%) of white football fans and 55% of fans of other races feel the punishment given to the Saints coaches is about right, but just 18% of blacks agree. Thirty-six percent (36%) of black fans think the punishment is too severe.

Men are slightly more likely than women to feel the coaches’ punishments were too severe. Adults ages 18 to 39 are more inclined to believe their punishments were too harsh compared to their elders.

Seventy-one percent (71%) of male football fans are following stories about the New Orleans Saints closely, as are 52% of female fans.

Feingold Ad Sacked After Complaint By NFL

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports:

The National Football League has asked the Russ Feingold campaign to take down a newly released ad that uses footage from NFL games.

The Feingold campaign reacted quickly. “We are making an edit to the ad to accommodate the NFL’s concerns," campaign spokesman John Kraus told the Journal Sentinel.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league did not license the footage used in the ad. He said the league had contacted the Feingold campaign about removing it.

The ad features various scenes of football players celebrating in the end zone. One clip shows the infamous 2005 "mooning" incident featuring Randy Moss, then with the Minnesota Vikings, in a game at Lambeau Field.

Here's what Feingold says in the ad: "In pro football, they call this excessive celebration. And they punish it with fines and 15-yard penalties. It's exactly the kind of behavior that corporate special interests and Ron Johnson are engaging in.

"They're dancing in the end zone because they think they're going to take down the U.S. senator who has been named the No. 1 enemy of Washington lobbyists. Fortunately, the game isn't over yet."

In other Randy Moss-related news, the New England Patriots may soon be sending the former Viking and future Hall of Fame wide receiver back to Minnesota.
