The Irony of O'Donnell Winning Because She Was Endorsed by the Tea Party
Christine O'Donnell won her primary because the Tea Party crazies came pouring into Delaware like a biblical plague of bed bugs. They infused mountains of cash into her campaign. The talking heads of the Tea Party...Limbaugh, Levin, Hannity, Palin, DeMint...endorsed O'Donnell and spread half-truths and lies about Castle at the last hour to put O'Donnell over the top.
Yet the Tea Party wants to revoke the 17th Amendment, depriving the people the chance to vote directly for their Senators. They believe that the people aren't to be trusted with such matters and that the only people worthy to ascend the heights of Olympus are the state legislators. Of course, the Tea Party really want to be those state legislators so that they can sell Senate seats ala Rod Blagojevich.
What irony, then, that if the 17th Amendment had been repealed prior to the Delaware primary, Castle would have been the Senator from Delaware and not O'Donnell. The state establishment were squarely in his corner. I doubt that O'Donnell would have had one supporter in the Delaware legislature.
