Survey of 550 Hispanic voters in Florida and New Mexico, and 509 voters in Nevada was conducted April 16-18, 2012 on behalf of Project New America. The margin of error is +/- 4.1 percentage points in Florida and New Mexico, and +/- 4.3 percentage points in Nevada. This survey was conducted through automated telephone interviews with the option for either Spanish or English.

Inside the numbers:
Romney starts the general election season with high unfavorables in the Hispanic community, particularly in New Mexico, where 61 percent of likely Hispanic voters have a negative opinion of him, and Nevada, where 52 percent view him negatively. In Florida, Romney’s approval rating is buoyed by support from conservative Cuban voters. 43 percent of Florida Hispanics view the ex-Massachusetts governor unfavorably, but that number grows to 58 percent among self-identified Puerto Ricans, Dominicans and Mexicans, the fastest-growing growing Latino groups in the state.
