        A majority of Northeast Republicans (57 percent to 22 percent) say they would support Christie in a GOP primary.
        But pluralities of Republicans in other parts of the country prefer another GOP candidate – in the Midwest (by 35 percent to 30 percent), the South (29 percent to 27 percent) and the West (40 percent to 22 percent).

        Clinton also holds the advantage with residents from the Northeast (52 percent to 35 percent), West (43 percent to 30 percent), the South (43 percent to 35 percent) and Midwest (41 percent to 37 percent).
        Christie, meanwhile, leads among whites (41 percent to 37 percent), seniors (44 percent to 41 percent) and respondents with an annual income of $75,000 or more (46 percent to 34 percent).

        Clinton has the support of 77% of Democrats, while 73% of Republicans back Christie.
        Clinton has a sizable lead among women voters, while Christie has a comparable lead among men.
        Fifty-two percent (52%) of voters under 40 prefer Clinton. A plurality (48%) of older voters choose Christie.
        Sixty-five percent (65%) of conservatives prefer Christie in a matchup with Clinton, but 84% of liberals – and 51% of moderates – favor Clinton.
