David Brooks: GOP to Punt Budget Debate to 2012 Presidential Election

From this morning's Chris Matthews Show:
MATTHEWS: David, tell me something I don't know.

BROOKS: We're having a big debate about the role of government. There are a lot of Republicans now in the House and in the Senate who have decided in these budget wars: 'We're not going to settle that debate. We're going to punt it to the next election.' So, they're not going to go to the wall. They are going to say: 'OK.  Let's fight that 2012 election about this.'

MATTHEWS: No shutdown?

BROOKS: Right.

MATTHEWS: Wow, that's a news story. That's front page of the New York Times. That's not a column.
