  • Very unfavorable 27% (23%)
Generally speaking, is Russia an ally of the United States, an enemy of the United States or somewhere in-between?
  • Ally 9% (6%)
  • Enemy 15% (16%)
  • Somewhere in-between 69% (66%)
Note: Republicans are more likely than Democrats to consider Russia a U.S. enemy, by a 23% to seven percent (7%) margin. Fourteen percent (14%) of unaffiliated adults share that view.

How important are U.S. relations with Russia?
  • Very important 40% (38%)
  • Somewhat important 45% (40%)
  • Not very/not at all important 8% (13%)
Is Russia a growing national security problem for the United States?
  • Yes 35% (36%)
  • No 28% (25%)
  • Not sure 37% (39%)
Note: A plurality (47%) of Republicans consider Russia a growing national security threat to the United States, compared to only 22% of Democrats and 35% of independents.

Survey of 1,000 adults was conducted March 6-7, 2012. The margin of error is +/- 3 percentage points.  Results from the poll conducted September 27-28, 2011 are in parentheses.
