Inside the numbers:
Romney and Santorum carry male and female voters by double-digit margins over Obama. Voters under 40 prefer the president. Just over 60% of their elders support the Republican in either matchup.
Voters not affiliated with either of the major political parties give an edge to Obama against both GOP hopefuls.
