Inside the numbers:
Obama holds a 39%-34% edge among voters who voiced clear support for one or the other. In February, both men were at 38% in terms of clear support.
While 87% of Democratic voters prefer Obama, Romney scores slightly stronger among Republicans with 89%. Among the important bloc of independent voters, Romney enjoys a 41%-32% edge -- but with a large number, 27%, undecided.
