Romney has a 20-point lead among male voters in the state, while Obama is ahead by 11 among female voters. Most voters under 40 continue to support the president, while the majority of older voters prefer his Republican challenger.
Both candidates earn strong support from voters in their respective parties. Romney is ahead by four among voters not affiliated with either the Republicans or the Democrats.
Fifty-seven percent (57%) of married voters support Romney, but 63% of voters who are not married favor the president.
In Missouri, Romney posts modest leads over the president in terms of voter trust on several key issues. When it comes to the economy, consistently viewed by voters as the most important issue in this year’s election, Romney has a five-point edge - 49% to 44% - in trust.
The GOP challenger has a 47% to 44% lead when it comes to health care issues and is ahead 47% to 43% in the area of national security. Romney also holds a slight 46% to 43% lead in voter trust when it comes to energy policy.
The candidates are in a near tie on the issue of taxes, with Romney more trusted by 46% while 45% place more confidence in Obama.
