I’m now going to read you a short list of people in the news. For each, please let me know if you have a very favorable, somewhat favorable, somewhat unfavorable, or very unfavorable impression.

National survey of 1,000 likely voters was conducted July 15-16, 2012. The margin of error is +/- 3 percentage points. Results from the poll conducted June 19-20, 2012 are in curly brackets.  Results from the poll conducted April 24-25, 2012 are in square brackets.  Results from the poll conducted April 10-11, 2012 are in parentheses.
Inside the numbers:
Eighty-three percent (83%) of Republicans and 63% of voters not affiliated with either major party give Rice favorable marks. She’s even viewed favorably by a plurality (47%) of Democrats.

Male voters regard Rice more favorably than female voters do, but 59% of women share a favorable opinion of her. Unusual for a prominent Republican, most black voters (58%) also hold a favorable view of Rice.

Sixty-nine percent (69%) of Republicans have a favorable opinion of Ryan. Unaffiliated voters tend to view him favorably, but 42% have no opinion.

Fifty-eight percent (58%) of Republicans like Jindal. Among unaffiliated voters, 31% view him favorably, 29% unfavorably, and 40% have no opinion.

Among GOP voters, 52% see Pawlenty in a favorable light. Unaffiliated voters are closely divided in their views of the ex-governor, but 46% have no opinion of him.

Forty-two percent (42%) of Republicans have a favorable view of Portman, who also served as budget director under President George W. Bush, but nearly as many (40%) don’t know what they think of him. Seventy percent (70%) of unaffiliated voters have no opinion of Portman.
