Inside the numbers:
Romney edges Obama 45% to 42% among male voters, but trails by 47% to 35% among female voters.

Voters not affiliated with either political party are almost evenly divided, but 26% of these voters either favor another candidate or are undecided.

Seventy-two percent (72%) of conservatives like Romney, while most liberals (82%) and a plurality (49%) of moderates give the nod to Obama.

Government workers support the president 61% to 27%, while private company employees are almost evenly divided over the two.
