Survey of 500 likely Iowa voters was conducted September 19, 2012.  The margin of error is +/- 4.5 percentage points.  Results from the poll conducted August 8, 2012 are in square brackets.  Results from the poll conducted June 11, 2012 are in parentheses.
Inside the numbers:
The president has a three-point lead among female voters in the state, while his GOP challenger is ahead by 10 among male voters. Romney also has a modest lead among voters in all age demographics.

Both candidates capture nearly 90% support from voters in their respective parties. Romney leads by 11 points among voters not affiliated with either the Democrats or the Republicans.

The candidates are within two points or less of each other when Iowa voters are asked who they trust more on several key national issues. Obama is trusted more when it comes to national security, taxes and health care. Romney has the edge on the issue of the economy. But voters in the state by a 45% to 39% margin express more confidence in Obama in the area of energy policy.
