Survey of 500 likely voters was conducted October 14, 2012. Inside the numbers:
Eighty-one percent (81%) of Montana voters are now certain of their vote in the presidential election. Of those who are certain of their vote, Romney leads the president 54% to 46%.
Romney has the support of 98% of Montana Republicans, while 90% of the state's Democrats favor the president. Obama leads 51% to 44% among voters not affiliated with either of the major parties. Romney is ahead 52% to 47% among male voters and 55% to 42% among female voters in the state.
Montana voters trust Romney more than Obama to handle the economy by a 52% to 43% margin. The two men are virtually even in terms of voter trust on national security, with Obama holding a 48% to 47% edge on the issue.
If Obama is reelected and Democrats regain control of Congress, 50% of Montana voters believe the economy will get worse, while 36% say it will get better. The numbers are reversed if Romney wins and Republicans take charge of Congress: 49% think the economy will get better and 36% say it will get worse.
