Survey of 500 likely voters was conducted October 7, 2012. The margin of error is +/- 4.5 percentage points. Results from the poll conducted August 21, 2012 are in parentheses.

Inside the numbers:
McMahon earns the support of 86% of the state’s Republican voters while Murphy has the backing from 77% of Democrats.
McMahon leads by 15 points among male voters in the state but trails by 21 among female voters. Voters under 40 prefer Murphy by better than two-to-one, while their elders give the advantage to the Republican.
Most married voters support McMahon. Most unmarrieds favor Murphy.
